Journey Overview

The Touch Kailash Tour is a 15-day overland pilgrimage from Kathmandu to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar with one extra day at Deraphuk for Charan Sparsh - the walk to the foot of Kailash's North Face, where pilgrims can touch the holy mountain. The route enters Tibet by road through the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border, with gradual acclimatization before the Parikrama.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU 1,400m

Welcome to Nepal: Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, meet our representative and transfer to the hotel. Evening briefing about the journey and passport collection for the Tibet permit and visa.

DAY 2 KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING & PREPARATION

Spiritual Preparation: Morning darshan at Pashupatinath Temple and visit to Budhanilkantha. Afternoon for yatra briefing, gear check and last-minute shopping while the visa is processed.

DAY 3 DRIVE KATHMANDU TO SYABRUBESI / TIMURE 1,800m

Towards the Border: Scenic drive north along the Trishuli river through Dhunche to Syabrubesi / Timure, close to the Nepal-Tibet border.

DAY 4 CROSS RASUWAGADHI BORDER TO KERUNG 2,800m

Entering Tibet: Complete immigration formalities at Rasuwagadhi, meet the Tibetan guide and drivers, and drive to Kerung town.

DAY 5 ACCLIMATIZATION DAY IN KERUNG 2,800m

Rest & Acclimatize: Full day in Kerung to adjust to the altitude. Short walks around town and health check by the team.

DAY 6 DRIVE KERUNG TO SAGA 4,450m

Onto the Tibetan Plateau: Climb onto the plateau with views of Shishapangma and Peiku Tso lake, then cross the Brahmaputra (Yarlung Tsangpo) to reach Saga.

DAY 7 DRIVE SAGA TO LAKE MANSAROVAR 4,590m

First Darshan: Long drive across the plateau via Paryang and Mayum La to Lake Mansarovar, with the first view of Mount Kailash. Evening by the lake.

DAY 8 MANSAROVAR PUJA & DRIVE TO DARCHEN 4,600m

Holy Dip & Puja: Holy dip (weather permitting), puja and hawan on the shore of Mansarovar. After lunch drive to Darchen, base for the Parikrama, and prepare for the trek.

DAY 9 PARIKRAMA DAY 1: YAMDWAR TO DERAPHUK 4,890m

Begin Sacred Walk: Short drive to Yamdwar and trek along the Lha Chu valley to Deraphuk, facing the North Face of Mount Kailash.

DAY 10 CHARAN SPARSH - TOUCH KAILASH approx. 5,300m

The Highlight: Early morning hike from Deraphuk to the foot of the North Face for Charan Sparsh - touching the holy mountain and offering prayers. Return to Deraphuk for the night.

Hike Duration: 5-6 hours (round trip)

DAY 11 PARIKRAMA DAY 2: VIA DOLMA LA PASS TO ZUTHULPHUK 5,630m (Dolma La)

Most Challenging Day: Early start for the steep climb to Dolma La Pass (5,630m), darshan of Gauri Kund on the descent, and a long walk down the valley to Zuthulphuk.

Note: Personal riding horses available for rent (not included)

DAY 12 PARIKRAMA DAY 3: ZUTHULPHUK TO DARCHEN & DRIVE TO SAGA 4,450m

Complete Sacred Circle: Easy morning walk to finish the Parikrama near Darchen, then drive back across the plateau to Saga.

DAY 13 DRIVE SAGA TO KERUNG 2,800m

Return Journey: Drive back from the plateau down to Kerung.

DAY 14 DRIVE KERUNG TO KATHMANDU 1,400m

Back to Nepal: Cross the border at Rasuwagadhi and drive to Kathmandu. Evening free to rest.

DAY 15 DEPARTURE FROM KATHMANDU
